Following a fantastic response (>250,000 combined chapter downloads) to the publication of ‘Obesity, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery - A Practical Guide’ in 2016, Springer has now published ‘Obesity, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery - A Comprehensive Guide’ last year. This second edition is once again edited by Dr Sanjay Agrawal, Clinical Lead & Consultant Bariatric, Laparoscopic & upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon at Homerton University Hospital, London.
“This book offers up-to-date knowledge in the field of Obesity and its Surgical Management, making it an ideal reference textbook for all,” Mr Agrawal writes in the preface to the book. “The book will serve as an excellent guide for a wide range of healthcare professionals involved within the Bariatric Multidisciplinary Team including Bariatric Surgeons, General Surgeons, Trainees, Physicians, Anaesthesiologists, Dieticians, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Radiologists and Nursing staff.”
The second edition, which has Mr Chetan Parmar (Consultant Surgeon & Clinical Lead, Department of Surgery, Whittington Hospital, London, UK) as its associate editor, has 107 chapters which are spread across 14 sections and written by leading experts from all across the globe. All the chapters have been revised from the first edition. Several new chapters and two new sections on OAGB/MGB Surgery & Metabolic Surgery have been added in it.
“This book is truly a remarkable, contemporary, and ‘Comprehensive’ work of passion and dedication that has only been possible because of Professor Agrawal’s leadership. I am humbled and honoured to have contributed to this and the previous edition. I hope Fellows and Residents find it a valuable reading that enhances their understanding and practice of bariatric surgery,” Professor Kelvin D Higa (Clinical Professor of Surgery, UCSF - Fresno Medical Education Program, past-President of the IFSO and past-President of the ASMBS), writes in a foreword for the book. “As before, all the aspects of bariatric and metabolic surgery including perioperative management, surgical techniques of common as well as newer procedures, complications, controversies and outcomes are covered. There are dedicated sections on revisional surgery and innovative endoscopic procedures.”
The book is once again well illustrated with photos and video clips along with step-by-step guidance for a complete range of bariatric procedures. Medical aspects of obesity and metabolic syndrome are included in the introductory section, and the last two sections cover numerous diverse topics in this exciting field of bariatric surgery.
