IFSO European Chapter (IFSO-EC) has come a long way from the humble beginnings at the Prague IFSO European Symposium in 2004. The main goals & future activities of the European Chapter were formulated and subsequently officially approved in 2005 in Maastricht as an integral part of IFSO.
The EC Chapter has gone in strength by the dedicated efforts of its members & comprises membership of 31 national bariatric societies, with approximately 2,800 members of European national societies.
Last year we had a fabulous, IFSO-EC 12th Congress meeting in Vienna in May . This meeting has seen a resurgence of IFSO-EC & thanks to the organisers for the superb efforts. The Vienna meeting had over 900 delegates at the three-day event. This was the first post COVID large scale meeting with good attendance from across Europe and the world.
We had several interesting sessions including interesting topics as NAFLD and the European championship for which members were able to vote. A highly interactive app was commissioned which helped attendees to communicate with each other and ask questions to the speakers or the panel. The conference dinner was held at the fabulous Vienna Museum, which is a highlight with amazing ambience and superb entertainment.
We look forward for the 13 Congress of IFSO-EC in Venice in May 2025. In May, the weather is phenomenally good. Venice is the historical ancient city of canals with rich traditions of over a 1600-year-old chronicles, first founded on 25th March 421 AD. It is described & quoted in Shakespeare's literary masterpiece works. A phenomenal programme is being charted out by our Venice Congress President, Maurizio De Luca, under the IFSO-EC presidency of Nicola Di Lorenzo.
We anticipate a massive attendance to this meeting and look forward to welcoming members who wish to attend.
