With over 26 years experience, the company’s global user base extends across hundreds of hospitals, more than 170 national and international databases, in more than 80 countries.

With a greater emphasis being placed on clinical governance and evidence-based medicine, Dendrite is the clear choice for collecting and analysing data to facilitate comprehensive reporting and improved patient outcomes to your professional practice.

Hospital Systems
Dendrite’s clinical database system can be used by individual departments (e.g. to track a particular patient cohort or procedure), as well as for multi-disciplinary teams and departments tracking patients along the treatment pathway. Dendrite’s ‘Intellect-Web’ system makes the analysis and reporting of data simple and clinically meaningful. The system includes in-built clinical outcome tracking software, providing users with the ability to track time-related clinical data for analysis of clinical events (e.g. referral, clinic visit, diagnosis, procedure, follow-up), all within a single software environment. Through the use of in-built risk stratification algorithms clinicians can benchmark their results against national and international standards, adjusted for severity of illness using wellestablished statistical methods. Dendrite’s clinical database system includes five types of analytics and reports:

  • Integrated data analysis tools.
  • Visual dashboard (examples below).
  • Data export and filtering.
  • Direct ODBC connection with industry standard reporting tools, eg. Microsoft SRS, Crystal Reports and SPSS.
  • Clinical documents such as operation notes and discharge summaries.

Built to work within almost any imaginable clinical scenario and designed to support multiple specialties, Dendrite’s system can be customised through the creation of structured clinical datasets de novo. The company supports all of the industry standard data transfer protocols and has a highly skilled and experienced team of software support programmers that can intelligently select the appropriate piece of data to include in the clinical record.

Dendrite’s Bariatric Surgical Registry Software can be used at a national level (as a national registry) and it can also be implemented locally in hospitals/clinics. Dendrite’s Bariatric Surgical Registry Software allows surgeons to track bariatric procedures, providing detailed tracking of comorbid conditions, complications (including the severity of post-op complications using the Clavien-Dindo classification), longitudinal follow up, EWL graphs, and includes the automated patient production of reports, operation notes and follow up letters. The software has an up-to-date list of device descriptions to match the latest staplers on the market, accommodates newer procedures with a dedicated section for OAGB/MGB and takes into account the use of gastric balloons so that a subsequent first surgical procedure becomes a primary procedure and does not appear as a revision. Furthermore, there is a dedicated subset of paediatric questions, for those centres operating on younger patients, which only appears if the age at operation is below 18 years of age. The software incorporates a Timeline offering a visual representation of surgical events and follow up in a time sequence and highlights key missing data, as well as displaying a Weight Loss chart on screen for each patient to view their timeline. The software is an html-5 compliant system, which will run on Safari (for a Mac, iPad or PC), Firefox, Chrome and the latest version of Internet Explorer (Version 10 and above). Dendrite devised the original idea for the IFSO Global Registry and then constructed the highly successful hybrid registry which combines both Direct-Data-Entry and Upload-My-Data portals to enable centres to submit data case-by-case or countries / multiple centres to submit electronic data in bulk. This Dendrite model has now been very successfully implemented around the world for individual National Bariatric Surgery Registries and for many other specialities.

National and International Registry Software Registries are an invaluable source of data for research for the identification of national and international standards for outcomes, as well as enabling prospective audits for assessing professional performance, case mix, severity of illness and outcomes. Registries allow the collection of 'real world' data facilitating effective clinical governance and audit, allowing healthcare professionals to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes. Giving their customers the right information, at the right time, Dendrite clinical registries are accessed via a standard web browser, where information can be entered and extracted securely, from any location. Dendrite’s unique clinical database system includes comprehensive analytics and reports:

  • Visual dashboard n Flexible data analysis tools
  • Data export and filtering
  • Clinical documents (such as operation notes and discharge summaries)

The Dendrite system also includes:

  • An in-built Report Writer tool enabling the local Database Administrator at a hospital to build templates for local clinical documents such as discharge letters, operation reports – allowing clinical users to automatically generate these documents for patients from the database system.
  • Automated E-Mailer PROMS module - at designated time intervals, the registry software can automatically send a secure personalised message to patients (who have provided their e-mail address and have consented to be followed up by e-mail) and they receive a PROMS questionnaire to complete on their smart-phones, iPads or computers anywhere in the world (provided they have Internet access) and the data returns automatically to the registry.

Data Analysis Collecting data is only useful if you are able to transform the data to provide useful, actionable insights. Dendrite’s in-house data analysis team work to reveal and interpret key messages from your data and through expert analysis - delivering useful clinical knowledge. They provide a comprehensive service and can audit data from numerous databases and data collection systems whether they come from a department, an institution, across numerous hospital networks or trusts, nation/international societies and associations, or commercial organisations. Dendrite can also provide additional data analysis services including:

  • Aspects of risk scoring
  • Longitudinal analysis
  • Sequential outcome analysis
  • Funnel plots
  • Dashboards

The quality of the data can be investigated to highlight shortfalls: missing fields, invalid entries and/or duplications / anomalies, which are subsequently reported back to client. Furthermore, the company’s services include merging disparate databases (from different countries and languages) to publishing award-winning national and international reports.

National and International Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Reports

Dendrite Clinical Systems has extensive experience in the production and publication of clinical database reports in collaboration with international specialist clinical societies and hospitals. The publication of data allows individual centres to participate in national and international comparative analyses, based on powerful risk modelling and risk-adjusted analyses, which are increasingly central to meaningful audit and clinical governance. The series of IFSO Global Registry Reports (2015-2019) is the culmination of years of research and analyses from the IFSO Global Registry Project, which was established by Dendrite in January 2014 to demonstrate that it is possible to merge and analyse bariatric and metabolic surgical data from different countries and centres. Dendrite has published several national bariatric and metabolic surgery reports for specialist societies and national health ministries including the United Kingdom National Bariatric Surgery Registry with the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), and the First Kuwait National Bariatric Registry Report 2019 – the first ever national report on bariatric and metabolic surgery in the Arabian Gulf region – for The State of Kuwait Ministry of Health.

Real World Evidence

Dendrite Clinical Systems is a global leader in the area of clinical registries with an extensive experience in the field of Real World Evidence studies. Real World Evidence goes beyond traditional controlled clinical trials. Pharmaceutical and medical device companies can use Real World Evidence data to inform stakeholders about a product's use, treatment patterns (standards of care), benefits and cost effectiveness to gain and defend market access, inform the design of products and trials and transform their relationships with clinicians from a supplier to a collaborator. While there may be various sources of real world clinical information (such as Electronic Patient Record systems), implementation experience has proven that this information is mostly sporadic, incomplete and difficult to reconcile and analyse, particularly on a large scale. Clinical registries have proven to be the main source of scientifically robust large scale Real World Evidence to date.

‘One-button push’ outcomes module

Dendrite recently launched its ‘One-button push’ outcomes module, allowing clinicians to instantly produce their outcomes with the push of a single button. This enhancement is the latest in a series of advances incorporated into the company’s clinical registry software. This innovative module collates a user’s data and publishes their data in a pdf report. The report, depending on the specialty, can include data on patient demographics, the number and type of performed procedures, complication rates, re-operation rates, length of hospital stay and outcomes etc. The outcomes report could be hugely beneficial during appraisal and revalidation as it produces evidence of a surgeon’s performance in the form of a real-time audit, as well as demonstrating the quality of service/value for money being provided to healthcare commissioners/stakeholders.
