Study links bariatric surgery and suicide risk

Bariatric patients are at an increased risk of suicide after their surgery, according to the findings of a new systematic review. The paper, published in Obesity Reviews, estimated that bariatric patients were four times more likely to commit suicide than the general population.

Surgery has “impressive” effect on cardiac factors

The largest ever systematic review of studies into the relationship between bariatric surgery and cardiovascular function has concluded that surgery has an “impressive” effect on cardiac risk factors, and that no pharmacological treatment has shown a similar effect over such short time periods.
