First International Conference ‘Controversies in bariatric surgery’ (CIBS 2020)

From 13-14 June 2020, the First International Conference “Controversies in bariatric surgery” (CIBS 2020) was held in St Petersburg, Russia, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic was implemented in an innovative online format, organised by the Society of Bariatric Surgeons of Russia, with the support of IFSO, together with the company Uniclinic.

Despite the temporary quarantine restrictions adopted in most countries, the conference organisers were able to unite more than 40 leading world experts of bariatric surgery from around the world. Two days of the event were full of active discussions on the most relevant and controversial topics related to bariatric and metabolic surgery. About 200 participants, with geography of residence from the USA and Brazil, to India and China, took part in the conference. IBC (International Bariatric Club) and the Barialink session were the part of science programme.

A virtual exhibition project was implemented on the conference site where medical equipment manufacturers were able to present their products in the online space and offer the opportunity for live communication with consultants.
