OAGB-MGB Euro Masterclass courses

Despite the growing trend in the utilization of the One anastomosis gastric bypass /Mini gastric bypass (OAGB/MGB), it is interesting to observe that many bariatric surgeons still have a misperception about this procedure. The confusion some authors make between OAGB/MGB and the old Mason’s loop bypass, or the hypothetical resemblance it has with the Billroth II technique, has led part of the International bariatric community, especially in the North America Chapter of the IFSO, to express deep concern about its utilisation.

XX SBCBM meeting - experts discuss obesity and metabolic diseases

The 20th Brazilian Congress of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, promoted by the Brazilian Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (SBCBM), 15–18 May , in Curitiba, Paraná. The event will bring the world´s most renowned experts in the treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases. In total, 1.8 thousand professionals - among surgeons, endocrinologists, physical educators, nutritionists, psychiatrists and others - are registered at the Congress.

European Obesity Day to be held on 18 May 2019

European Obesity Day, held each year to draw attention to Europe’s growing obesity epidemic and the need for better prevention and treatment, is to be held this year on Saturday 18 May. Individuals, healthcare providers and organisations throughout Europe will be taking part with events ranging from providing free health check-ups and healthy eating advice, to holding open days at hospitals and treatment centres, walks and runs to encourage exercise, and information and training workshops for healthcare professionals.

European Obesity Day will raise awareness of bariatric surgery

European Obesity Day, which takes place on Saturday May 19, is expected to significantly raise awareness of the benefits of bariatric surgery. The annual event, organised by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), is aimed at increasing knowledge about obesity and the many other diseases on which it impacts.
