IFSO publishes October 2012 newsletter

The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders has published its October 2012 newsletter, which is now available to download from their website.

Highlights in the latest issue include a message from IFSO’s president, Pradeep Chowbey, who calls on members to continue pooling their resources, exchanging information and data, and address the growing need for effective strategies to combat obesity.

IFSO president elect, Luigi Angrisani, urges members to recommend ideas as to how IFSO can increase its political influence and practical activities, particularly in the field of the surgery for treating obesity and diabetes.

Professor Chowbey also reports from the successful IFSO World Congress in Delhi, which was attended by more than 1,400 delegates and honoured by a visit by his Holiness the Dalia Lama.

There are also updates from the presidents of the IFSO Chapters (Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America and Latin America), a look forward to the XVIII IFSO World Congress (Istanbul, Turkey) from Mustafa Taskin, congress president.

In addition, Scott Shikora, editor-in-chief of the Obesity Surgery journal, reports that the impact factor increased from 3.078 to 3.286 in 2011, and the journal is now ranked 17th out of 198 surgical journals.
