Bariatric nutrition essentials

The ebook series Bariatric Nutrition Essentials evolved after years of patients asking Sally if there were recipe books available for people undergoing bariatric surgery. We know anybody can write a recipe book. There are thousands on the market, even some aimed at those who have had weight loss surgery. So how is this series different? In this series Sally has combined appetising, healthy and simple recipes, the knowledge of a dietitian and many of the lessons learned from working with bariatric clients over the years.

To complement the nutrition know-how, a trained cook who has been through the dietary stages of bariatric surgery herself, reviewed and refined the recipes. Her expertise was invaluable in improving flavor, increasing fibre and protein, recipe variations and ensuring the methods were clear and easy to follow.

Recipes have been tested on a wider patient group of weight loss surgery patients and their comments are included. Rigorous nutrition analysis has also been undertaken in the development of all recipes and nutrition information is provided.

It is well documented that nutrient deficiencies can occur after bariatric surgery. Nutrient deficiencies can when patients are not eating an adequate amount of food, not eating a wide variety of foods or not including the supplements recommended to them.

By incorporating appealing, healthy, nutritious recipes, patients are one step closer to healthy living.

Bariatric Nutrition Essentials provides menus for each of the dietary stages encountered during the weight loss surgery journey:

  • Bariatric Nutrition Essentials: Preparing for Surgery Tasty recipes for use on a meal replacement program

  • Bariatric Nutrition Essentials: Recovering from Surgery Tasty recipes for the Fluid and Puree Diets

  • Bariatric Nutrition Essentials: Healthy Living after Surgery

Tasty recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Patients can choose the stage relevant to them, or complete their weight loss surgery journey with the complete series.

The recipes in the series are estimated to serve four people. These are four small meals, suitable for most people following bariatric surgery. Tips are included for increasing the serve sizes for families and friends to allow healthy food to be incorporated into their lives too.
