Dear Friends,
After the resounding success of the first BARICON held in year 2016, it gives us great pleasure to announce the AIIMS BARICON – 2nd International Conference on Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery to be th thheld on 13 to 16 November in New Delhi. There are many conferences being held in Bariatric Surgery all across India but the AIIMS assurance of a great scientific content and inclusion of only reputed and experienced faculty as speakers is what makes this conference different. The theme of the Congress is "Management of Complications". The efficacy of bariatric surgery is well established. With growing awareness about safety, it is important that the complications are not only diagnosed in time but managed appropriately. There have been reports of high morbidity and mortality due to mismanagement of complications. This meeting will lay stress on the proper management as per the global standards. Leak, for example, is a dreaded complication and most surgeons are aware of the strategies for prevention; but What to do if leak happens? Most busy bariatric surgeons will encounter leak and all of us should know the correct management rather than living in denial that it can never happen to me.
Our meeting starts with the Cadaver course at AIIMS where a small group of 10-12 surgeons get hands on experience on performing bariatric surgical procedures on a fresh cadaver. They will be mentored by experienced faculty with ample time for one to one interaction. Earlier this year, we had organized the first cadaver course on Bariatric Surgery in India which was highly appreciated. On the 2 day Operative workshop is planned with a variety of cases which will be performed by experienced faculty from India and abroad. The next two days are dedicated to debates and discussions with emphasis on evidence based management of complications. We have excellent speakers with most of them having a huge experience and publications in bariatric surgery. There will be a session on manuscript writing and paper publishing as well. In order to encourage presentation of high quality research work, we have made a provision for 20 bursaries for young surgeons in the form of stay at venue hotel and complimentary registration.
November is an excellent time to visit Delhi and weather is at its best with the onset of winter season. The venue of the main congress is Hotel Pride Plaza in the buzzing Aerocity, close to Airport. There are lots of cafes and shopping malls just across the venue. The Airport Express can take you to heart of Delhi in 20 minutes.
With warm regards
