berian B.E.S.T. 2017, the 14th B.E.S.T. (Bariatric Endoscopy Surgery Trends) congress edition, is taking place at the city of Lisbon, organized by Hospital CUF Infante Santo and Academia CUF, aiming at building a universal platform for high level multidisciplinary thinking and discussion on the most recent technological advances, including the latest robotic systems, the challenges of revision surgery, current controversies and the state-of-the-art in metabolic surgery.

This reflection will be thoroughly illustrated and complemented during the live surgery sessions.

B.E.S.T. – Bariatric Endoscopy Surgery Trends is a highly prestigious annual international congress in the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery that gathers the most reputable and experienced world specialists in the field.

The last few editions took place in New York (Mount Sinai), Guadalajara, Bruges, Maracaibo, Madrid and Naples.

Bariatric surgery is still the only efficient treatment for severe and morbid obesity, in addition to addressing the associated comorbidity. This resulted in great scientific and technological development. Procedures became less invasive, safer and replicable and in the past twenty years’ hundreds of thousands of surgical interventions have been performed in this area.

Late complications and weight recovery in over 20% of patients in need of revision surgery, of greater complexity and risk, represent an important challenge to the modern bariatric surgeon.
